Please join us in this class to make the Late Bloomer Mittens with pattern designer Kristin Ledgett!

Since its publication in Making Magazine in 2020 we have been so pleased to see all the love that this mitten pattern has garnered. This is a very special mitten pattern that employs several textile crafts; knitting, embroidery, and sewing, and Kristin will walk you through them all in this 3-part class. These lessons will include:

selecting materials and combining colours for the Late Bloomer Mittens
an introduction to charted pattern reading for knitters
basic mitten construction - including that finicky thumb!
embroidery on a knitted mitten
drafting a sewing pattern for a mitten liner
sewing and attaching mitten liners to finish your mittens.

3 session course, class fee includes some materials

Materials: Fee includes the polar fleece for lining your mittens, and paper for drafting your mitten liner pattern, other materials not included. You will need:
two skeins Lichen and Lace Rustic Heather and one skein Lichen and Lace Marsh Mohair (or one ball Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair or Walk Suri Fluff) available at The Knit Cafe.
3.5mm and 4mm double pointed or long circular needles for magic loop.
50 grams DK or worsted weight scrap yarn (should be smooth in texture and not too dark in colour) available at The Knit Cafe.
Also bring some sewing yarn and needles. The colour does not matter too much as it will not show on the outside of the mitten.

Level: Intermediate. Students should be confident in working in circles either on double pointed needles or with the magic loop method. They should have experience reading knitting patterns and be comfortable fixing their mistakes.

Cancelation Policy: No refunds are provided for students who cancel their class registrations. A store credit or exchange of the date of the class can be given if you provide 3 days notice prior to the first session of your class. Notifications made within 3 days of the start date are not eligible for a store credit or exchange. Exceptions may be made for students who miss classes due to COVID-symptoms - please get in touch.
