80/20 Sock
Lichen and Lace's hand dyeing studio is in tiny Sackville, New Brunswick and it must be an inspiring kind of place! At least one gets that impression when browsing the delightful colours of Lichen and Lace yarns. Colours named Marsh Lily, Clover, Beach Glass, and Lichen really paint a beautiful, pastoral picture of this maritime town settled in the middle of a marsh. Lichen and Lace's colours really seem to manifest the subtleties and the unique hue combinations that nature is capable of creating. The yarn is hand dyed loveliness and made in Canada charming!
Since Lichen and Lace is made by hand each skein is an original. Colour comes out more vividly in some skeins than others and there are often colour changes from batch to batch. This one-of-a-kindness makes each skein a treat; full of individuality and artistry. If you are planning a project that uses more than one skein you may want to try alternating your skeins as you knit to make the colour more uniform.
The 80/20 variety from Lichen and Lace is a fingering weight yarn comprised of 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon. The healthy supporting role of the nylon makes this yarn a very good contender for sock knitting. Nylon makes wool stand up to wear. Sock enthusiasts can try out their Lichen and Lace 80/20 on The Knit Cafe's Sweet Sock Pattern. If these colours are too pretty for just your feet you will find the merino is soft enough for other body parts too. Since this is a fine wool it will make gorgeous shawls, and light sweaters, and kids wear too - it's washable after all.
