Lichen and Lace 1-ply Superwash Merino
One-ply yarn is an amazing canvas for hand dyers! The organic texture adds dimension to colour and the mellow twist absorbs dye in really unique ways. With the careful attention of the expert dyers at Lichen and Lace this one-ply yarn overflows with charm. One-ply yarn is spun for softness, so this superwash merino yarn feels great! It will be make the most comfortable of shawls and scarves and sweaters too. It will not hold it's shape as well as a bouncy 4-ply but it will surpass the competition when it comes to lightness and delicacy. A one-ply yarn has excellent bloom which is when stitches plump and cozy up to each other so it can be knit to a looser gauge if desired. All one-ply yarns are more susceptible to wear so it is not appropriate for socks. For that job try Lichen and Lace 80/20. The Knit Café has created a shawl pattern that uses two skeins of Lichen and Lace 1-ply called There's No Place Like Home, with one skein you could make the Bonnie Bandit.
Hand dying techniques make each skein an individual. You will see variation from batch to batch and even skein to skein. Some knitters alternate their skeins when knitting a project with more than one skein of hand dyed yarn to smooth the transition.
