Natural Dyeing Basics with Kerri Westlake

We are thrilled to have Kerri Westlake host a natural dyeing class here at The Knit Cafe. Kerri has a wealth of experience transforming plant materials into gorgeous colour and has parlayed these talents into Westlake Knits - her own line of naturally dyed yarns. In this class Kerri will be your guide in the exploration of yarn dyeing with plants! Learn basic techniques that will allow for a lifetime of experimenting with a rainbow of natural colours. This afternoon workshop will cover the fundamentals including:

~ how to prepare your fibres for best results

~ using mordants and preparing dye baths

~ how different fibres absorb dyes differently

~ how to get multiple colours from one plant

In addition receive an introduction to the fascinating history of colour, tips for growing a dye garden, and foraging for local sources of dye that are growing right under our noses.

1 session, all materials including Dorset wool yarn from local farm Circle R are covered by class fees.
