Old Mill Alpacas DK
This is a wonderful yarn from local alpaca farmers Old Mill Alpacas. Situated in Colborne, Ontario, Old Mill is a small but mighty alpaca farm with a herd of 100 plus dearly loved alpacas. All of them adored for their unique personalities and of course their heavenly soft coats. You can visit them if you are ever in the neighbourhood.
This season the herd has brought us this very special DK weight yarn. It is spun from undyed alpaca fleece. The colour variations comes from blending hues from individual alpacas from tawny brown, to charcoal grey to creamy white. The colours are expertly combined by the spinners at Legacy Lane, a small wool mill in New Brunswick, Canada. Each colour combo has been carefully considered by the spinners and treated to a unique spinning method. The brown and white fleece has been spun into a delicate two-ply. Grey and white fleece are blended into a subtly heathered, balanced and smooth three-ply. Charcoal grey and white fleece are spun into fine barber poled strands that are then grouped into a three-ply. This approach makes a yarn with a really unusual appearance; replete with textural colour-contrast. This soft yarn would make cozy hand made garments of all kinds. DK is a perfect jumper-weight, but even a fine alpaca is warm enough for winter hats and scarves.
