Check out the labels on this yarn! It may have been this surface beauty that made us first fall in love with Mondim yarn but our admiration is not just skin deep.
Mondim is a fingering weight yarn made from 100% Portuguese wool. It is brought to us from the Retrosaria yarn project whose mandate is to preserve the threatened indigenous sheep breeds of Portugal and support the local textile practices there.
You could make super cute socks from this yarn or you could get creative and make pretty much anything you fancy for a lightweight yarn. Projects made from Mondim will have a smooth, matte, appearance with just a hint of a halo. This is not a superwash wool so the natural properties of the yarn have not been messed with and your knitting, crocheting or weaving projects will keep their shapes beautifully. It also has a lovely, soft, and woolly hand.
Some varieties of this yarn knit up with gentle colour variation and some striping depending on the stitch pattern and the number of stitches. Others are completely solid, saturated colour.
For inspiration and drool worthy projects have a look at Rosa Pomar’s Instagram account HERE Rosa is the talented and industrious founder of Retrosaria.
