Creative Knitwear Mending
Taking the time to mend your garments is a great way to preserve memories, hold on to cherished items, and avoid waste and over consumption; not to mention the soothing benefits that come along with all handcrafting practices.
Join Allie Davis at The Knit Cafe as they lead you through various ways to breathe new life into beloved knitted items - sweaters, socks, toys and other cozy keepsakes. In this class we will focus on several techniques to repair knits: the classic woven mend, and felted mend to fill in holes, and duplicate stitching for embellishing and for reinforcing thinning areas. You do not need any knitting experience to acquire these mending skills.
1 session
Materials: The class fee includes all the materials you will need for the class: knitted swatches, yarn scraps, and darning needles, roving, felting needles and foam. Additional mending materials like darning threads of specific colours, and darning eggs can be purchased at The Knit Cafe. Check out our mending supplies HERE.
The Knit Café will provide knit swatches for students to use while practicing the technique. To ensure The Knit Cafe remains a moth-free environment students should not bring in knitwear to be mended. Participants are welcome to bring in photographs to ask the instructor about specific mending issues.
Level: No experience necessary.
