Introduction to Intarsia Knitting

Exploring the Intarsia Knitting technique will allow knitters to add colourful pictorial elements, graphic shapes, blocks or panels of colour to their knitwear creations. Unlike Stranded Colour Knitting, Intarsia knitters do not carry multiple yarns across the back of their work and instead switch from one colour to another mid row. In this 2-hour lesson students will learn to change yarn colours multiple times in a row without getting holes and skewed stitches. They will try out hand-winding and using yarn bobbins and reading charted patterns.  Gain confidence by practicing these new skills in class while knitting a heart shaped motif!

1 session, materials not included

Materials: 4.5mm needles, and 50g each of two highly contrasting solid colours of worsted weight yarn such as Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino available at The Knit Cafe

Level: Intermediate. Students should be adept at casting on and off and knitting and purling.

A store credit or exchange of the date of the class can be given if you provide 3 days notice prior to the first session of your class.
